At its center, a painted vision of the Great Salt Lake—past and present—follows the Bear River’s path, forming a flowing figure in the sky to symbolize water as a life-giving force.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"887\"\u003eEncased in a teardrop-shaped frame, the piece incorporates imagery of \u003cem data-start=\"539\" data-end=\"556\"\u003eElrathia kingii\u003c\/em\u003e, the Cambrian trilobite known to the Pahvant Utes as \u003cem data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"635\"\u003eTimpe khanitza pachavee\u003c\/em\u003e (“little water bug in stone”). Revered as protective amulets, these fossils reflect endurance and healing. I also draw on my Mexican and Mesoamerican heritage by integrating shield-step motifs, invoking themes of protection and care for our waterways.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"1183\"\u003eUsing sunlight-stable fiber yarns, oil paint, and metal leaf, the work layers ecological and cultural symbols to reflect the Salt Lake’s evolving story.
