Transforming Skies explores the overlooked landscapes of labor that shape the American West. Painted from a construction site at dusk, the work captures a fleeting moment where industrial infrastructure, artificial light, and the changing sky converge. Connecting to the changing protections that are given to undocumented workers who are often found in the parking lots of hardware and material stores. Created with oil paint, concrete, corn flour, and sand collected from the Great Salt Lake, the materials physically embed the environment into the painting, collapsing distinctions between representation and place. The warning sign “Safety is Our Priority" becomes a quiet meditation on the invisible risks carried by workers whose labor often remains unseen. Through textured surfaces and muted light, the painting reflects on transformation, resilience, and the fragile relationship between land, labor, and belonging.
