Art Work Statement: 

Created for Intersections of an Immigrant, Memories Are Due reflects on the instability of home in the undocumented immigrant experience. Growing up undocumented, frequent moves made permanence feel elusive, transforming home from a physical place into something carried through relationships, memories, and community. The fragmented image of a house emerges through layers of turquoise and faded forms, suggesting how memory softens hardship while never fully erasing it. The work explores the duality of remembering, holding affection for places shaped by family and belonging, while acknowledging the uncertainty and displacement that accompanied them. In this space between nostalgia and reality, home becomes defined not by walls, but by the people who remain with us.
