Water Carriers: Water Carriers reflects the cultural and ancestral responsibility of stewarding water in the Great Salt Lake Basin. Using mineral mica, lake sand, and shifting interference pigments, the work honors Indigenous and Latin American traditions of care, mapping the spiritual, ecological, and communal relationships that have been carried through generations. Connecting both the Great Salt Lake and the “cenotes” of Mexico that hold histories of survivance and matriarchal labor.
Material Description:
Crushed Mineral Micah from the Great Salt Lake, Sand from the Great Salt Lake mixed with acrylic ground and structural embroidery thread. Interference Pigment that shifts color with viewing angle.
