Edge of Devotion is a watercolor mixed media portrait of my partner over quartz sand, acrylic medium. Under light, each granule shifts and shines, creating a new visual experience from every angle, reflecting the transformation of love within a partnership. 

This original painting uses a handcrafted masonic texture taught by my parents, extended family, and community who've worked in concrete construction. 

Art Statement: 

This portrait of my husband began with a base of white acrylic mixed with quartz sand — a material choice inspired by my stepfather, who works in concrete construction. As the textured surface dried, it formed unpredictable ridges and valleys, echoing the labor-worn materials of both home and industry. His face emerged gradually, shaped by the surface’s natural patterns. Depending on the angle and light, the painting glistens, softens, and transforms — much like the shifting dynamics of love, memory, and labor. This piece is a tribute to resilience, to craftsmanship passed down, and to the quiet brilliance found in everyday lives.
