Art Work Statement:
This piece explores the quiet yet consuming toll of labor for immigrants. I've painted my father, partially illuminated, waiting for me to pick him up from work after a 16-hour work day, every day, for the past 20 years. I wanted to highlight the mental and physical strain of repetitive work. The high saturation against concrete sand symbolizes the tensions between exhaustion and perseverance. Inspired by the intersection of industrial landscapes and immigrant endurance, this work reflects on how labor shapes both the body and spirit, especially under the weight of unseen societal expectations.
