Out for Delivery is a dreamlike recollection of migration, memory, and waiting. Inspired by my childhood, the painting revisits a moment when my five-year-old brother and I were left near the U.S.–Mexico border while our parents crossed the desert and sewer tunnels in search of a future for our family. Through fragmented architecture, glowing windows, and surreal landscapes, the work blurs the boundaries between memory and imagination, reflecting how childhood experiences are often remembered in pieces rather than facts.
The title references both the language of shipment tracking and the uncertainty of migration, children suspended between places, waiting to be reunited with those carrying their hopes across a dangerous border. The illuminated home at the center of the composition becomes a symbol of longing, safety, and the promise of belonging that guided our family's journey north.
