Artist Statement 

Mother, Quilt, Mountain depicts a grandmother passing down knowledge of land, prayer, and horticulture through embodied tradition. Rooted in intergenerational care, the work reflects how women safeguard cultural continuity by teaching practices that nourish both spirit and soil. This piece honors the often-unseen labor of matriarchs whose guidance shapes family, landscape, and collective memory.

Material Statement

24” × 24” — Concrete, embedded embroidery thread, oil, acrylic, and corn flour create a surface that evokes earth, domestic craft, and ritual. Concrete anchors the work to land, while corn flour and thread reference nourishment and handwork central to matrilineal knowledge.
