Artist Statement 

Por La Familia: Portrait of Fanny Guadalupe honors the quiet strength and cultural labor of women who safeguard ancestral knowledge. Fanny lifts a woven textile that carries familial memory, Indigenous tradition, and the continuity of care. The work reflects how immigrant women cultivate a sense of belonging through ritual, craft, and the tending of land and community. This piece is also a celebration of the decade-long commitment and sacrifice Fanny has given as the director of Artes de Mexico en Utah, and a remembrance of her retirement in 2026. 

Material Statement

24” × 36” — Created with oil, thermochromic pigment, acrylic. The textured surface merges traditional painting with heat-responsive color shifts, symbolizing living memory and the warmth of generational care. Corn flour and layered oil reference weaving, touch, and the embodied transmission of cultural knowledge through community-centered educational practices.
