Artist Statement
Sunday Best, Monday Burden honors my mother, Rosa Isela, an undocumented immigrant who raised three children alone while working two full-time jobs, attending church every Sunday, and surviving lymphoma twice. Her resilience, faith, and devotion embody the unseen labor that shaped my life. This piece celebrates her sacrifices and the community of care I aspire to build
Material Statement
24” × 48” Concrete, sand, oil, embroidery, and corn flour. These materials reflect the weight, endurance, and tenderness of my mother’s labor: concrete and sand evoke physical and emotional burdens; embroidery and corn flour honor domestic care, nourishment, and the cultural textures of our home.
