The connections we build online are often fragmented, intangible, and abstract. As an immigrant navigating systems that often erase or overlook my presence, digital spaces have become both a site of distance and a space of deep intimacy. This abstracted portrait of my partner honors the person who, even across screens and borders, has helped me feel seen, grounded, and whole. In this work, I sought to capture not the likeness of their face, but the emotional imprint of their presence—the way love can spiral inward, folding safely into itself, while also extending outward in motion and light. The form revolves around a central square, expanding and collapsing like a breath, drawing from the structures that shape digital communication and the softness of human emotion that passes through them. The cool color spectrum flows like water or a signal, invoking clarity, calm, and the emotional stability my partner offers me. In a world that so often abstracts or reduces immigrant identity, this painting reclaims abstraction as a space of connection, presence, and care. It is a visual testament to love that persists and uplifts even in the face of invisibility.
